Our laser cutting service delivers fast, precise and clean cuts on a wide variety of sheet metals. Using fiber laser technology, we produce flat parts with excellent edge quality and minimal material distortion.
When to use laser cutting
Laser cutting is ideal when you need flat sheet metal parts with intricate designs, tight tolerances or fast delivery. It is the preferred choice for brackets, enclosures, panels, gaskets and decorative components where accuracy and edge quality matter — parts with complex contours, sharp corners and small features that are difficult to produce by punching or shearing.
Laser cutting is the right choice when your project requires:
- Precise flat sheet metal parts with complex contours and fine details
- Fast turnaround from prototype to production
- Clean edges with minimal post-processing
- Cost-effective manufacturing without expensive tooling or dies
- High repeatability for consistent quality across multiple parts
- Low material distortion on thin to medium thickness metals
The process excels in rapid prototyping, allowing quick design iterations, as well as low to medium volume production where cost-effectiveness matters. We recommend fiber laser cutting for most metals because of its speed, precision and edge quality on mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium, and it serves automotive, electronics, medical equipment, machinery and architectural applications alike.

Seven reasons to specify laser cutting
1. High precision and accuracy
Laser cutting delivers exceptional precision with tight tolerances, allowing intricate details, fine features and complex geometries that are difficult to achieve with traditional methods.
2. Superior edge quality
The process produces clean, smooth edges with minimal burrs and very low heat distortion, often reducing or eliminating the need for secondary finishing operations.
3. Fast turnaround
Extremely fast cutting speeds enable rapid prototyping and shorter lead times, making it ideal for urgent projects and quick design iterations.
4. Cost-effective
There is no need for custom tooling or dies, which significantly reduces setup costs for prototypes and small to medium production runs.
5. Material versatility
Fiber lasers cut a wide range of metals — mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and brass — with excellent results.
6. Minimal material waste
Nesting software optimises material usage across the sheet, lowering overall costs and supporting more sustainable manufacturing.
7. Design flexibility
Complex patterns, small holes and detailed cut-outs are handled without compromising quality or increasing production time.
Recommended material thickness
For optimal quality, speed and cost-effectiveness we recommend the following thickness ranges. The maximum values are achievable depending on the specific alloy and the complexity of the design.
| Material | Recommended thickness | Maximum thickness |
|---|---|---|
| Mild steel | 0.5 mm – 12 mm | Up to 20 mm |
| Stainless steel | 0.5 mm – 8 mm | Up to 15 mm |
| Aluminium | 0.5 mm – 8 mm | Up to 12 mm |
| Copper / Brass | 0.5 mm – 6 mm | Up to 8 mm |
For best results we typically process materials between 0.5 mm and 12 mm, with maximum capabilities up to 20 mm for mild steel, 15 mm for stainless steel and 12 mm for aluminium.
Thicker sections cut more slowly and with a wider kerf, so the recommended range is where edge quality, speed and cost are all at their best. Where a part sits above it, we will tell you at quotation whether laser cutting is still the right route or whether a machined or waterjet-cut blank makes more sense.

Before you send the drawing
Our engineering team will advise the best laser technology and parameters based on your specific material, thickness and design requirements to ensure the highest quality results.
Send the flat pattern or the 3D model — STEP, IGES, DWG or PDF — and we will confirm the material, thickness, edge quality and lead time with the quotation. If the part also needs bending, hardware insertion, welding or a surface finish, we handle it as one order.
